Insurance for flooding - national survey

Flood victims hit by escalating home insurance are being invited to take part in a national on-line survey.

People living in at risk properties, where premiums have also rocketed can also have their say.

The survey has been launched by the National Flood Forum, the charity that will represent flood victims in a special government led insurance summit later this summer.

With one in six properties in the UK now officially at risk of flooding, many home owners are caught in an insurance trap.  If they can find insurance at all, they face hefty premiums and huge excesses even if they have never flooded.

The National Flood Forum says that there is growing evidence that people are caught in a postcode lottery where their insurance company is penalising them for no obvious reason.

To help get a true picture as to what is happening, everyone who has been flooded or is deemed at risk of flooding is asked to take part in the survey, irrespective of whether or not they have problems with their insurance.
